DART 3P42 Stage Management in 2009-10
Hello students
I require feedback from you ASAP - please circulate this email, particularly to those you think may not be reading their brock emails.
We are proposing to offer 3P42 as a lecture/lab course running 12 weeks in D2. Students would attend lectures and have practical lab training with a qualified and experienced instructor. There would be study units and larger projects. There would NOT be a practicum assignment.
For those students who wish to have a practicum (such as be a stage/assistant stage manager for the Mainstages - or other events as deemed necessary) you would take 3P42 AND 3P97. The practicum (also supervised) that last year was part of 3P42 is proposed now to be a 3P97, much like the few 3P97s that have recently happened 'in the field'.
The reasons for this are:
- gives students an opportunity to study and learn about stage management WITHOUT having to do a time-intensive mainstage practicum.
- recognizes the learning (and time) that is part of the practicum experience by awarding an additional half credit to the student.
- permits students to learn stage management in their third year but apply to do the practicum component in their fourth (whether at school or in the field)
Please note that for those of you interested in taking the 3P42/3P97 combination and believe that you may not have room in your program, please meet with us to discuss possible arrangements to your program design in order to permit you to earn a full credit in the area of stage management studies.
*** Please let me know if:
a) you are intending to enrol in 3P42 as described above
b) are hoping to have an assignment as stage/assistant stage manager for the Mainstages (or possibly the One Acts, etc.)
c) you are interested in registering for a 3P97 credit in order to do (b) above
thx

Courses at Stratford
for 2009: The dates this year are July 20th – August 8th
>>> we need to have a list of participating Brock Students by March 15, 2009, so plan your summers soon . . the plays will likely be: Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Westside Story, The Importance of Being Earnest, Phaedra, or Midsummer Night’s Dream.
in 2008:
- information about courses at Stratford in 2008. courses are offered annually through a partnership with universities in the region.
- some changes for 2008: 4 universities will be participating in the Voice & Text and Shakespeare in Performance classes. We are proposing 2 sections of the Voice and Text – this means that we will be able to send 10 students every year instead of 7. Brock will be paired with Windsor BFA students. Western will be paired with Guelph. If extra spaces in the sections come forward, they will be offered to the other universities in the agreement: we might actually be able to send more than 10 students.
- Last year, some Brock students dropped-out at the last minute. This meant that we were not able to send as many Brock students as we had places for. A new registration policy will be put in place to ensure that students are serious about participation in this valuable course experience.
